the late 70's Andy Warhol visited Iran with the specific intention of fashioning portraits of both Shah Reza Pahlavi and Empress Farah Pahlavi in his trademark style.These portraits were finished in 1978, to be unveiled during the Shiraz Arts Festival later in the year, which was swiftly cancelled leading to the dissolution of the Monarchy and the rise of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979. During this transition period pop culture imagery of the Shah and Shahbanu was often destroyed or defaced.
